Inhibition of the TPA-induced activation of AP-1 by para -methoxy-substituted trans-stilbenes. Screening with the 293/AP-1-luc cell of a range of substituted trans-stilbenes, all of which have a para-methoxy functional group on one ring, demonstrated numerous inhibitors but no enhancers of the TPA-induced activation of AP-1. Analog 46, with an IC50 = 0.5 μM, was the most potent inhibitor observed in this study. The * notation indicates p < 0.01.
